Mad About The Dog is fully insured by Pet Business Insurance (the trading name of LRMS Insurance Services Ltd). Your dog will be fully covered by insurance for loss, injury or injury to third parties (to date I have never needed to use my dog walker insurance policy).
Q HOW MANY DOGS DO YOU WALK TOGETHER?
I have a very small client base and have been walking the same dogs together for years. I walk up to 4 dogs together including my own dogs.
I am happy to walk your dog either on or off lead. However, if your dog’s recall is particularly unpredictable, for their own safety they will be kept on a lead until their recall has improved (which I will naturally practice with them myself). There are many different techniques to teach a dog recall, some dogs may need more work and dedication and require different strategies than others, and I am very happy to share my knowledge with you.
In an emergency, your dog will be taken to the closest vet to the walking location as soon as possible and your vet will be contacted. All locations the dogs are walked in have vets accessible within a 10 minute car journey. In the case of minor injuries or ailments I will ring you to discuss whether your dog needs veterinary treatment.
Q WHAT HAPPENS IN ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS?
I will never walk the dogs in conditions that are dangerous to them or myself. Your dog will be brought home to you and you will not be charged for the walk. Daycare dogs whose owners are at work will be taken to my home in the case of severe weather. In the case of hot weather, I do not walk any dog in temperatures above 23°c as the risk from heatstroke is too great at this temperature. Older dogs and dogs with underlying health conditions usually cannot tolerate heat above 21°c, but this will be discussed with the owners on a case by case basis. Any dog that comes with me in the summer will be walked in the shade, near water, with access to drinking water and if needed wearing a special 'cooling jacket' which I have in several sizes.
I consider this on a case by case basis. Obviously I can't take an unneutered male who is constantly mounting or who shows aggression to other dogs.
Dogs are transported safely and comfortably in my car on dog beds and blankets inside safety crates. I don't use a windowless van so they are free to see the world flying by as we travel, or to peacefully snooze. My car is air conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter. The dogs enjoy a very comfortable journey.
Dogs will be collected from their homes and will be in the car whilst other dogs are collected. There are only three dogs to be collected per walk, in the same or neighbouring locations. It can take between 10-30 minutes depending on traffic and other variables. Then we are off to one of several locations up to a maximum of 20 minutes away. The same for the return journey. In the case of the daycare dogs, the process will be repeated 2 or 3 times a day, but I have always found that the dogs enjoy their rest periods in the car after their walks and are fully ready for a nap.
The only time your dog would be left alone in the car would be when I am collecting a dog from their home. However, I park on a driveway, or directly outside a house while I pop in and out. I make sure I can see the car at all times. If for any reason I can't park outside a house, the dogs will come with me. I never leave my car alone with dogs inside without me being able to oversee it.
